The main producers are Italy, Spain, Brazil, Costa Rica, Morocco and Israel.
The main varieties are Baggio, Supermarket, Mambo, Harper and Orlando. This fruit has got a thick, soft, yellow skin which can be more or less reticulate depending on the varieties. The pulp is of peach-colour and it is aromatic, sweet juicy.
It it is consumed within 1 or 2 days it has to be kept t environmental temperature (68-72 degrees F/20-21 centigrade degrees). In the opposite case, it has to be kept in the refrigerator.
The melon has got a thirst-quenching, diuretic, refreshing and laxative function. It can be used fresh, alone or together with ham or it can also be used for appetizers, fruit salads, sweets, ice-creams and milkshake.
