This is a large, turbinate fruit, with a short, woody and a little curved stalk. The skin is smooth, yellowish and rusty around the junction of the stalk, and it has got irregular rusty patches. The pulp is whitish, soft, sugary, typically aromatic, thin, firm and sometimes slightly grainy.
This fruit is very responsive to the handling and the bruises so it has to be picked and processed with delicacy.
From a nutritional point of view it contains a good quantity of simple sugars (fructose of rapid assimilation), pectin, tannin, mineral salts, malic and citric acid, in addition to phenol compounds with antioxidant action.
The pear is very easily digestible, it has got a depurative, refreshing and laxative function and it is very suitable in the diet of young and old people. These pears are particularly appreciated for the fresh consumption and they are suitable for fruit salads and cocktails.
