This fruit has got a medium or big size and sometimes it has got an irregular shape. Its skin is green with rust-coloured lenticels. It has got a soft creamy white pulp with a sweet and aromatic flavour.
Unripe fruit: the pears must be firm and without cuts or bruises on the skin.
Ripe fruit: the pears must be slightly firm, but soft to gentle pressure at the lower part.
It can be conserved well during several months after the harvest if it is kept in a controlled atmosphere. In the ripe fruit the pulp collapses easily.
From a nutritional point of view it contains a good quantity of simple sugars (fructose of rapid assimilation), pectin, tannin, mineral salts, malic and citric acid, in addition to phenol compounds with antioxidant action.
The pear is very easily digestible, it has got a depurative, refreshing and laxative function and it is very suitable in the diet of young and old people.
